Legendary land, playing a prominent role in Spain’s History, in 1503 the estate became the property of Queen Isabella the Catholic.

Today, those 520 Hectares of vineyards, plus 1,300 Ha under cultivation (Maize, Sugar beet, Alfalfa, Cereals...) and 1,200 Ha of woodlands, are distributed among seven vineyard sites (Hoyo Dornajo, La Mina, Prado del Rey, El Pino, Los Robles, Valdelayegua and Salgüero), and belong to Javier Cremades. Bodegas Prado Rey bases its progress on three important keystones:

• INNOVATION. Self-sufficient as regards power supply, with a Dam on the River Duero and a Solar Energy Park.
• ENVIRONMENT. Concerned about nature protection.
• SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. First Winery to receive the award for the 'Most Socially Responsible Company in Burgos' for measures taken such as waste recycling, donating computers, reducing propane consumption, providing a canteen for employees, a kindergarten for employees’ children, and replacing Company cars with ‘Eco-friendly Models’.

The planting of part of the vineyard area began in 1989, but the Winery building wasn’t completed until 1996. Harmonious and eye-catching, the project’s Architects, Engineers and Oenologists knew how to combine nature, practicability and attractiveness.

Winery facts and figures

• Its grape varieties: 90% Tinto Fino, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot
• It has four 95,000 Litre and two 150,000 Litre tanks.
• The ageing hall contains 6,000 Barrels with a 225 Litre capacity.
• Also 11 cone-shaped wooden vats made of French Oak, holding 21,000 Litres.
• It releases onto the market approximately 1,500,000 Litres / Year.
