Arabic and Roman land, it is the starting point of the Ribera del Duero wine designation. It is the first village of the province of Soria that is included in the Designation of Origin.

Amongst the church of San Miguel and the castle, an old communal wine-press was restored , which no longer fulfills its original function of pressing and preparing grapes, but it recreates all of the traditional process in all of its interior.

San Esteban de Gormaz gave professional status to its wine culture in its Cooperative Gormaz Winery, indicating the development of wine-making in the local areas and putting forward the new technology to achieve superior red wines of Designation of Origin.

Wine Route Ribera del Duero

In the south east of San Esteban de Gormaz, the route covers six villages and 33 Km long path: Soto de San de Esteban, Aldea de San Esteban, Peñalba de San Esteban, Piquera de San Esteban and Atauta.

• The church of San Miguel is Spain’s first Romanesque Portico model. Built in 1081, it is housed in the ruins of the castle. It has been a National Monument since 1976.
