This village has been part of the Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero since 2003, as there was radish in the Neolithic epoch. Two Km from the village there are archeological sites from 1200-800 AD.
The real origin of the village was the church. However, it was extended to the north because of the presents of the river in the south. The distribution of the streets was carried out in the form of a checkerboard, very common in Segovia and in Castile and León in general: they are parallel streets based on a single axis.
The history of Rábano definitely depends on that of Peñafiel, as Rábano was at all times a settlement of Peñafiel. Peñafiel was mentioned for the first time 943 and documents with reference to Rábano only appear later.
