This village is popularly known as Fresnillo de la Fuente, because of being integrated into the Área de Fresnedas it has interesting buildings from the Roman era. Its church is dedicated to San Miguel Arcángel and its chapel to Nuestra Señora de la Guía.

The village has a surface area of 20.81 Km² and its name refers to a reddish natural spring or source, because of the very characteristic colour of the area’s own clay.

Villaverde de Montejo tells us with its own name that it was part of the Villa y Tierra de Montejo Community. The remains of an abandoned settlement known as Pinilla de Arcos are still located in the village.
